Had the 14 pcs sashimi combo (with miso soup and rice) and the beef sukiyaki. The sashimi was fresh and fatty in a good way. The sukiyaki's broth was rich with mushroom umami, featuring tender beef, mushrooms, veggies, tofu, egg, and clear noodles cooked in soy sauce and sweet sake. Paired it with a bottle of sake--perfect match.

Good and fast service. Lots of refills. They have a variety of foods on their menu to choose from. We ordered sushi and it was really good. The rice bowl was good as well. Lots of room in the restaurant and ample seating both in the front and back. There is traditional seating, but you must ask. It was pretty neat to see these cause not many restaurants have them.

Came here for Friday night dinner and got seated quickly. The restaurant did fill up later into the night. There is a main dining area with tables and bar seating and a slightly more private hallway area with booths. Chicken Karaage (3.5/5): The fry on this wasn't like the typical karaage I am used to. It felt a bit oily and heavy on the batter. The chicken itself was good. Pink Lady Roll (5/5): This roll had hamachi, salmon, tuna, avocado, oshinko and masago. It was very fresh. Rice to fish ratio was good. Interesting that it was wrapped in soy paper. Dragon Roll (4/5): This roll had shrimp tempura, imitation crab, avocado, topped with eel. This was good but there was barely an eel on it. This is a good sushi spot. Nice and chill place to grab lunch or dinner. It is close by the train and just a street away from the downtown area.

WHEN I came to San Mateo to eat at Dash, I passed by an izakaya that looked pretty good, called Fuji Sukiyaki. Tonight's dinner choice? Decided to give it a try! Location: 428 E 3rd Ave, San Mateo, CA 94401 Highlights: Value for Money: Each piece of nigiri is generously portioned, and the price is reasonable. Freshness: The sea urchin and oysters are quite fresh; overall, the fish quality is decent. Ambience: They have tatami rooms inside, giving it a nice, authentic vibe. Flavor: The variety of food combinations was very appealing to me. Some fish are sourced from Japan, which aren't commonly offered in typical sushi places. There's a large selection of sushi and other dishes. Sunrise: Salmon arranged like flower petals, with roe in the center on top of rice. This was a childhood favorite of mine, though it's missing the mayo. Japan Aji: Japanese Aji, great presentation and flavor, with a nice seared touch. Sukiyaki: Initially, I thought this was a sukiyaki-focused place, but they only have a few options. Planning to try the beef next time, which is around $28 -- not bad. Oyster Bomb: Oyster topped with sea urchin, roe, and a quail egg -- super satisfying in one bite. Hand Roll: They have some off-menu items written on a small blackboard. I ordered the uni, roe, and toro hand roll that the table next to me had. Rolls: Since I ordered a lot of raw items earlier, I decided to try a baked roll too, which was also good. They offer many types of rolls. Side Dishes: For those who don't eat raw fish, they have a variety of cooked dishes, which go well with sukiyaki. Overall, it feels like a down-to-earth izakaya with good value. Service is good. Looking forward to my next visit!

Hokkaido roll - 4.5/5, got this just for the scallops haha. Delicious with a slight spice. Pink lady roll - 4/5, packed with lots of fish and daikon for some crunch. Tempura - 4/5, beautifully fried and super crispy!

I absolutely love this sushi place. It's pretty unassuming on the outside, but there's actually a fair amount of seating on the inside. Service is super quick. The prices are reasonable for a sushi place. I usually get the rolls here because they are pretty big! Fish tastes fresh and the portions are great. I haven't tried any of the nigiri or sashimi, but I'll be sure to try it next time.

I've been eating here for 20+ years. Their sushi is always the best and fresh. We had the double unagi roll with a generous amount of sauce. Yum! This time, we shared the dinner boat special which was way too much for one person. I can't believe we used to order the boat special in the past for each of us. It came with two skewered large shrimp fried in a thick batter, so was the delicious assorted tempura. The teriyaki chicken was a bit tough. It also came with 3 California rolls. The place was packed as usual. Bring your check to the cashier for faster service. There's also a new parking garage next to the restaurant owned by the city of San Mateo. Free parking after 6 pm. Fuji Sukiyaki never disappoints!

Grabbed some dinner here at around 5 pm on a Saturday and we got seated pretty quickly for our table of 6. Their menu had a lot of options from rolls to sashimi to bento boxes. The servers were communicative and very helpful in getting our preferences correct for certain dishes. Sushi Combo - I chose it because I wanted to try the different fishes they had and wanted to know exactly which ones I'd be getting. I liked the salmon and the unagi the most. The hamachi was pretty good and the scallop had a little fishy taste to it. It was very filling as all the pieces were massive and thick. Other dishes my table ordered were the Chirashi bowl which came with 12 pieces of sashimi which were also very massive and fresh. Another favorite of the table was the bento boxes where the teriyaki sauce was a star and the tempura was crispy and light. Overall, the dishes were well priced and everything tasted very fresh with large portions. Definitely a great sushi option if you're in the San Mateo area.
